Description

The Hikvision iDS-7108HQHI-M1/T is an 8-channel AcuSense hybrid DVR designed for CCTV installations that need intelligent detection alongside support for existing coaxial cameras. It accepts HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI, CVBS and IP video inputs, allowing security installers to work with different camera technologies through one recording platform. Its Motion Detection 2.0 technology uses deep-learning-based human and vehicle classification to help reduce unwanted motion alerts caused by environmental movement such as shadows, changing light and moving foliage. The recorder also supports perimeter protection, facial detection and capture, H.265 Pro+ video compression, audio over coaxial cable and remote access through Hik-Connect. With support for up to 12 IP camera channels in Enhanced IP mode, it offers an upgrade path for sites gradually adding network cameras. Businesses, shops, offices, warehouses and institutions across Delhi NCR can use this recorder to modernise an existing surveillance installation without immediately replacing every coaxial camera. Explore the Hikvision and other CCTV DVR systems at Thencix for compatible recording options.

Eight-Channel Hybrid Camera Recording

The recorder provides eight analogue video inputs through BNC connectors. These inputs support compatible HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI and CVBS camera formats, making the unit suitable for installations that contain a mixture of older analogue cameras and newer high-definition coaxial cameras. This hybrid compatibility is useful when a business wants to upgrade its recording equipment while retaining working cameras and existing cable routes.

For example, a retail shop in Noida may already have coaxial cameras covering its entrance, billing counter, storage area and back office. Replacing the recorder can provide access to newer recording and detection functions without requiring the business to replace all eight cameras at the same time. Camera compatibility, supported resolution and frame rate must still be checked against the actual camera models.

The DVR also accepts IP camera channels through its network interface. In the standard configuration, it supports two IP channels, with Enhanced IP mode allowing expansion to as many as 12 IP channels. This gives installers flexibility when extending an existing surveillance system with network cameras. IP cameras require their own suitable power source or a compatible PoE switch; the DVR does not provide PoE output.

Different camera technologies have different signal and resolution capabilities. The recorder’s supported input resolution and frame-rate combinations depend on whether the camera uses HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI or CVBS. Installers should consult the model datasheet before mixing camera formats, especially when an existing site uses cameras from multiple generations.

AcuSense Motion Detection 2.0

Motion Detection 2.0 uses deep-learning-based analysis to classify human and vehicle targets on supported analogue channels. Traditional motion detection can react to any significant change in the camera image. Moving leaves, headlights, shadows, rain and changing illumination can therefore generate alerts even when no person or vehicle is present.

Human and vehicle classification helps distinguish relevant movement from other scene changes. This can make event review more practical for a shop owner, warehouse supervisor or security operator who receives frequent notifications from several cameras. Instead of treating every motion event equally, the recorder can help prioritise events involving people and vehicles.

The specification lists human/vehicle analysis for up to four channels. Motion Detection 2.0 is enabled by default for the analogue channels, while the available analysis functions and channel limits depend on the configured feature and recording mode. Buyers should distinguish the recorder’s eight physical analogue inputs from the number of channels available for each individual AI function.

For a warehouse in Faridabad, for example, cameras may cover loading bays, vehicle entrances and internal storage aisles. Human and vehicle classification can help security staff focus on movement that matters to site operations. The feature is an alert and search aid, not a substitute for continuous monitoring, suitable camera placement or a properly configured security policy.

Perimeter Protection and Facial Detection

The recorder includes deep-learning-based perimeter protection. This feature is intended to help identify relevant movement around defined areas, such as entrances, restricted zones and boundary approaches. Correct camera positioning and suitable scene configuration are important because the quality of detection depends on the view, lighting, target size and environmental conditions.

Facial detection and capture provide additional event-search capabilities. The system can detect face pictures and support face-picture search, helping an operator locate relevant recorded events more efficiently. Facial detection should not be confused with a complete access-control system or an automatic identity-verification platform. The feature’s purpose and available functions should be checked against the installed firmware and the intended surveillance workflow.

In an office or educational facility, cameras can be positioned at reception areas, entry corridors and other monitored locations. The DVR can then be configured to help operators review recorded events associated with these areas. Any use of facial imagery should follow the organisation’s applicable privacy, access and data-retention policies.

H.265 Pro Plus Recording

Video compression has a direct effect on the storage and network requirements of a surveillance system. The iDS-7108HQHI-M1/T supports H.265 Pro+, H.265 Pro, H.265, H.264+ and H.264 video compression. H.265 Pro+ is designed to improve encoding efficiency and reduce the storage required for supported recording workloads.

Actual storage consumption varies with camera resolution, frame rate, scene movement, image complexity, compression settings and recording schedule. A camera viewing a quiet office corridor may generate a different recording load from one monitoring a busy shop entrance or vehicle loading area. For this reason, storage planning should use the actual camera configuration rather than a single assumed recording-duration figure.

The recorder supports a range of encoding resolutions, including 3K Lite, 5MP Lite, 4MP Lite, 3MP, 1080p and lower resolutions, subject to the selected mode and input type. The published encoding capability includes up to 3K/5MP Lite at 12 fps. Buyers should verify the specific camera input and recording mode combination before designing a system around a particular resolution and frame rate.

Hard Disk Storage and Playback

The DVR has one SATA interface and supports a hard disk capacity of up to 10TB. A surveillance-rated hard disk is recommended for a recorder that writes video continuously or according to a scheduled recording plan. The required capacity depends on the number of active cameras, resolution, frame rate, compression mode, scene activity and retention period.

The HDD is not included with the recorder unless explicitly mentioned in the supplied quotation or product configuration. The installer must fit a compatible drive and initialise it through the recorder’s storage settings before relying on it for recording. A system without an installed and configured HDD cannot provide normal local video retention.

The recorder supports synchronous playback across eight channels. This allows an operator to review footage from multiple camera views together when investigating an event. Smart search functions can help narrow playback by event or object type where supported by the configured analytics. For a business with cameras covering a cash counter, entrance and stockroom, reviewing related footage across channels can help establish the sequence of an incident.

For longer retention requirements, calculate storage using the actual camera configuration and recording schedule. Do not assume that a particular hard disk size guarantees a fixed number of days. Thencix can help identify a compatible surveillance HDD and review the storage requirement for a proposed installation.

Audio Over Coaxial Connectivity

The iDS-7108HQHI-M1/T supports audio over coaxial cable for compatible cameras. This can simplify installations where supported camera audio is carried through the existing coaxial connection rather than requiring a separate audio cable for every camera location.

The recorder also provides RCA audio input and output connections. Its published specification includes one RCA audio input, with an optional configuration for additional audio inputs, and one RCA audio output. Two-way audio is available through the first audio input when used with compatible equipment and the supported configuration. The DVR’s audio compression is G.711u.

Audio functionality depends on the camera’s microphone or audio hardware, the selected video input technology and the configuration of the recorder. A camera with no audio capability will not provide sound simply because it is connected to the DVR. Installers should confirm the camera’s audio support and the required wiring before promising audio recording or two-way communication.

Network Access and Hik-Connect

The recorder includes one RJ45 10/100 Mbps self-adaptive Ethernet interface and supports a total network bandwidth of 96 Mbps. Network connectivity allows the recorder to communicate with compatible client software and remote-access services. Supported protocols include TCP/IP, PPPoE, DHCP, Hik-Connect, DNS, DDNS, NTP, SADP, NFS, iSCSI, UPnP, HTTPS, ONVIF and ISUP.

Hik-Connect provides a remote viewing and management route for compatible installations. Once the recorder is connected to the network and correctly configured, authorised users can access supported live-view and playback functions through compatible devices. Remote access depends on the internet connection, network configuration, firmware and account setup.

The recorder can also connect to a Wi-Fi network through a compatible Wi-Fi dongle connected to its USB interface. A Wi-Fi dongle is an additional accessory and should not be assumed to be included. For fixed CCTV installations in shops, offices and warehouses, a wired Ethernet connection is generally preferable where practical because it provides a dedicated network path for the recorder.

Display Outputs and Local Operation

The DVR provides one HDMI output and one VGA output. Both support display modes up to 1920 ร— 1080 at 60Hz, with additional supported monitor modes listed in the product specification. HDMI and VGA can operate simultaneously, allowing the recorder to be connected to compatible display equipment for local monitoring.

This arrangement is useful for a security desk where an operator needs a dedicated screen for live camera views and playback. The recorder’s local interface can be used for configuration, playback and system management. Monitor resolution and refresh rate should be checked against the supported output modes.

The unit also includes two USB 2.0 interfaces for supported peripherals and service operations. A USB mouse can be used for local navigation. The exact location of the USB interfaces and the supplied accessories should be checked against the hardware revision and package supplied.
